ARS is open to all women of the parish. Apostolate for Family Consecration The 2009 Lenten Parish Mission introduced 4 parish ministries. The 40 Day Consecration to Jesus through Mary, based on the writings of St. Louis de Montfort and Pope John Paul II, effects positive changes in ourselves and the world if we connect completely with Our Lady. The Enthronement of the Holy Family in our homes protects our family and our souls. The First Saturday Fatima Family Devotion consists of Confession, Holy Communion, the meditative Rosary, and 15 minutes of meditations on the decades done 5 consecutive First Saturdays. Our Lady promised an era of peace and the graces we need for our salvation at the hour of our death if this is done. Consecrate Them in Truth is ongoing formation DVD programs taught by the Orthodox and Marion hierarchy of our Catholic Church. Assumption Athletic Association Assumption Athletic Association is a ministry committed to facilitating athletic activities"within the School and Church. They oversee the purchasing of uniforms, sports equipment, and"concession items as well as communicate with families on all activities available. Parish Ministries Ministry Contacts Parish Ministries Cursillo Movement The purpose or goal of the Cursillo Movement is to make Christian community possible in neighborhoods, parishes, work situations and other places where people live the greater part of their lives. The word Cursillo means “short course”, in this case a short course in Christianity. Cursillo friends use the tripod to to grow closer to God and bring people to God. The tripod is Holiness (prayer & mass), Study (Scripture and books) and Action (getting friends to know Christ). Kairos Kairos is an ecumenical prison ministry whose mission it is introduce Jesus Christ to the incarcerated. It is a non-denominational retreat which lets prisoners know that Jesus loves them and people do care. Knights of Columbus Bishop Kenny Council 1951 supports the Assumption Community. The Knights" are the largest fraternal Catholic men’s organization in the world. They were founded on helping families, women, children, and those less fortunate. St. Vincent dePaul Assumption’s St. Vincent dePaul is a wonderful ministry that serves the poor both locally and abroad through service and garage sale fund raising. Please come serve the Lord and help us help the poor. Assumption Catholic School The Assumption School Community, in the presence of God, and as a member of the Assumption Parish Community, is committed to providing a quality Catholic education where children and learning come first. Assumption Council of Catholic Women Founded in 1937, the ACCW is made up of a diverse group of women from our parish. Our mission is to develop spiritual and social life among our women and to render service to the parish. At the present time we are six “circles” meeting independently of one anotherbut coming together to support our parish and each other through faith and friendship. Some of our Council activities include an annual Tasting Luncheon and Auction, a Wine Tasting Gala, cooking and serving for the Father-Son Breakfast, helping with the Parish Mission and Oktoberfest as well as attending talks and presentations given by our Priests and Sisters. Cenacle of Life "We gather in the church"every Wednesday after the 8am mass as a group to pray because the more that gather in the church to end abortion, the faster it will end." In this way we hope to be spared the just punishment that our nation deserves for killing our unborn, sick, elderly, and unwanted." Diocesan and Non-Parish Ministries Assumption Catholic Church Ministries Parish Ministries Children's Liturgy Children’s Liturgy of the"Word serves all Assumption parish children from Preschool age through 4th Grade during the 10:00 Mass"on Sundays when school is in session." This ministry is available to any parishioner who may be called to become a Catechist to help the parish children better understand the Liturgy of the Word. Christ Renews His Parish CRHP is a spiritual renewal weekend retreat designed to help individuals grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and with others in the parish. Consolation Ministry The loss of a loved one is hard to bear. Assumption parishioners and staff are here to assist with such things as calling hours, funeral mass and vigil preparation, organizing and staffing a reception, emotional support, attending the annual All Souls Mass for those who do not have family members to mourn them, and ongoing prayer for the deceased and their loved ones. Couples' Bible Study The Couples’ Bible Study is an ongoing opportunity to take time to nourish your marriage with the Word of God and fellowship with other parishioners. Senior Luncheon This is a lunch for the Seniors of our Parish that are at least 62 years old."It is held once a month on a Monday at 11.30 AM at Kohl’s Hall. It is free and reservations are required. Father Fred usually says a prayer right before the luncheon. Vocations Committee Promoting and supporting vocations to the priesthood and the religious life is to help the future of the church and parish. The Vocations Committee promotes new vocations, spotlights the activity of those in formation and acts to support those already in the seminary program. Why Catholic? Why Catholic?"is a unique adult faith formation process solidly based on Sacred Scripture, and the"Catechism of the Catholic Church. "It offers a concrete approach"to help adults deepen their Catholic faith and connect its teachings to their everyday lives. Small groups meet at a location of their choosing for six weeks each Spring and six weeks each Fall, and participate in a discussion based on what has been presented in their books. Youth Ministry Assumption Youth Ministry is comprised of Middle and High School youth. Inspiring our faith through formation, service, and fun we nurture spiritual growth within our teens Meetings are on early release Wednesdays from 2:00 – 4:00. Assumption Catholic Church Ministries Parish Ministries Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process established for the universal Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. This initiation process also involves a parish community experiencing a renewal in faith as it prepares and welcomes new members into the Church. Respect Life The Respect Life Committee is committed to the protection of all life from conception to natural death. We promote awareness and participation in various pro-life activities such as The Women’s Help Center and 40 Days for Life. School Board The role of the school board is to provide support to Assumption School’s Principal and head Pastor." Support includes recommendations relating to the school’s budget, future tuition rates, and marketing to the community at large." The board is comprised of volunteers with varying backgrounds who serve on a 3 year rotation. Scouting Since 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. We believe, through nearly a century of experience, that helping youth puts us on a path toward a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. Scouting, with programs for young men and women, helps meet these six essential needs of the young people growing up in our society: Mentoring, Lifelong Learning, Faith Traditions, Serving Others, Healthy Living, Building Character. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Tiger Scouts, and Webelos serve the Assumption community. Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy As a Eucharistic Apostle of Divine Mercy, we learn about God’s message of Divine Mercy to this fallen and hurting world in which we live. We follow the Formation Guidelines from the Cenacle Formation Manual, which has weekly lessons and specific readings from which we read and relate them to our own lives, struggles, and spiritual walk. This includes readings from the Diary of St. Faustina, “Divine Mercy in My Soul”, readings from Scripture, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We then share personal prayers of petition before praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. We meet every Thursday evening at 7pm in room 2C in the Family Center. Finance Council The Parish Finance Council is an advisory body which gives advice to the pastor on the temporal financial matters of the parish. The group makes an annual budget both for the school and the parish and works closely with the parish Business Manager to oversee ongoing expenses. It meets about four times a year. Fraternus Fraternus is an organization for young men in grades six to twelve in a brotherhood based on true manhood and faith." It meets on Sunday evenings in Jordan Hall. Assumption Catholic Church Ministries Parish Ministries Gift Shop A large variety of religious items, including rosaries, holy cards and other religious articles are on sale before and after each Mass. Volunteers are needed to work in the gift shop or may sign up to help occasionally with receiving and putting inventory away. Please contact Margarita Johnson through the Rectory. 398-1963. Home and School Association The Home and School Association is the vehicle to mobilize parental efforts in support of their Catholic School. "The main purpose of the HSA is communication. It promotes communication among parents, teachers, and administration. The HSA"promotes good will and cooperation between parents, faculty, administration, the school board, and the parish. "It also directs and coordinates parental support to the school through specific assistance activities, social functions, and fundraisers. Home of the Mother The Home of the Mother has three missions in the Church: The Defense of the Eucharist. The Defense of Our Lady especially in the privilege of Her Virginity. The Conquest of the Youth for Jesus Christ. The Home of the Mother hold weekly formation meetings for adults and families in Kohls Hall at 6:30pm on Fridays. The Sisters have a Holy Hour every Tuesday from 7pm until 8pm in the Church. During the Holy Hour Vespers are prayed, points of meditation are given by one of the Sisters. We also have various activities and retreats for young people and children. Formation meetings for college students are held every Thursday evening at 7:30pm at UNF. Parish Night Out One Wednesday a month (outside of Daylight Savings Time) the parish invites every family to come for a meal (three dollars a person – or fifteen dollars for a whole family) in Jordan Hall. The purpose: just to get together and enjoy one another Wednesday night is Religious Education Night as well as many other events. Families come to get a break from cooking and to meet friends. Pastoral Council The Pastoral Council meets about six times a year to advise and give support to the pastor and to coordinate and encourage the various ministries of the parish. One of the things that it sponsors is the annual Ministry Fair in the fall. This gives the parishioners an opportunity to meet with members of the various ministries and learn about what they do and perhaps join up. The Pastoral Council is challenged to listen to the needs of the parish and advise the pastor in terms of planning for the future. The council is made up of representatives of the various ministries and representative members of the congregation. Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament You are invited to make a 1 hour per week commitment to develop a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ by participating in Eucharistic Adoration. Christ is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Are you? Assumption Catholic Church Ministries Ministry to the Sick The Ministry to the Sick consists of a group of trained Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist who offer Holy Eucharist, distribute Rosary packets and prayer booklets to Catholics at Baptist Medical Center, who are home bound, and in nursing homes. Visiting the sick is a Work of Mercy and is extremely rewarding. Music Ministry The choir season begins with the Sunday after Labor Day through Pentecost Sunday. We provide music for the 10 AM Mass. Special liturgies such as midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday at 10 AM Mass are enhanced with music by members of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Waddell, our organist and choirmaster. We rehearse Thursday evenings at 7:30 for no more than an hour. We gather Sunday morning at 9:20 before Mass to warm-up and rehearse any special music of the day. Natural Family Planning We teach natural family planning through the Couple to Couple League (CCL). " The course of instruction consists of three classes, spaced about a month apart. " We teach monthly, so there are four series per year. "Natural Family Planning enables couples to grow in their love for each other and for God, as they use this knowledge to plan the spacing of their children. "This knowledge not only helps couples avoid pregnancy, if that is their desire, but also enables even marginally fertile couples to achieve pregnancy at no cost, without resorting to expensive and immoral fertility treatments. Parish Ministries Liturgical Ministry This ministry serves the church in three ways as Sacristans, Lectors, and Extra- Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EM). The Sacristan prepares the Church for Mass. Lectors read the scriptures for the day. EMs help distribute the Eucharist. Altar Servers assist the Priest at Mass. This ministry is a direct involvement with the Mass and to serve our Lord. Men's Club All men of Assumption Catholic Church are eligible to become part of the Men’s Club. You do not have to be Catholic. Our mission statement is to “Do good and have fun”. We serve the Lord by serving our families, our church, and our community, and fellowship with each other. There are no membership fees, and admission is free. Ministers of Hospitality The Ministry of Hospitality’s purpose is to welcome all into our community as part of the Body of Christ. This is accomplished through Greeters, Ushers, and the Welcome Committee. The ministry is open to men and women. GREETERS: Greeters meet parishioners and new comers as they open the doors of the church inviting all to worship. USHERS: Ushers care for the assembly during the Liturgy and are responsible for other liturgical functions. They are responsible for coordinating the procession of the gifts, taking up the collection, organizing the communion procession, distributing the bulletins after Mass and any other materials to the assembly, assisting with seating when necessary, and helping in case of a medical situation. |
